The number of weekly Internet radio listeners nationwide has increased 50% over last year and 12% of the U.S. population now regularly listens to Internet radio.

I’m surprised Internet radio has taken this long to catch on but I’m sure it has something to do with the increasing availability to broadband Internet connections.

KZION broadcasts using Windows Media Audio and I receive a lot of emails from listeners who ask if they can listen to KZION using Winamp. The answer is yes. You can play any WMA stream using Winamp. This feature has been in Winamp for quite awhile, the problem has always been getting Winamp to read an .asx file. So, here are the steps to configure your Winamp to connect to WMA streams which use an .asx file.

First, be sure you have the latest Winamp, which as of this writing is 5.2. Also make sure you download the full version. You don’t need the Pro (paid) version but the next one down. After installing, go to Options - Preferences - Plugins - Input and click on the Windows Media Decoder 3.1. Close the Options box.

Next step is to go here and download the Playlist Loader plugin. Install the plugin and restart Winamp.

Finally go to kzion.com and select the listen link. If .asx files are still associated to Windows Media Player, right click on the listen link, select copy, and paste into the Winamp File - Play URL box.

There you go. Listen to KZION or any other WMA stream using Winamp. One side note. The buffering in Winamp is much greater than in Windows Media Player, and so the What’s Playing Now page on KZION will not sync very well when listening with Winamp.

One Voice, the debut album from Gladys Knight and the Saints Unified Voices, won the Grammy for Best Gospel Choir Album this afternoon at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards.

Since the January 2005 release, One Voice has remained in the top-40 on Billboard’s Gospel charts for the better part of 52 weeks. In the first week, the album soared to immediate success and snagged the title of Billboard’s #1 Hot Shot Debut and landed at #9 while it simultaneously shot to the #1 Gospel Album and #2 Inspirational Album on iTunes.

Created and directed by Knight, the Saints Unified Voices, is a matchless gospel choir consisting of more than 100 members from several cultural backgrounds whose mission is to build faith while breaking down cultural barriers. From the energetic, gospel classic “Pass Me Not,” to the moving duet, “Did You Know,” with John Fluker, One Voice offers uplifting and inspirational musical insight.

Other nominees in the Best Gospel Choir Album category were the albums, I Speak Life by Donald Lawrence & Company, Live at the Fellowship by VIP Mass Choir, One Church by The Choir of Life (Japan), The Choir of Life (USA) & The Kurt Carr Singers, and 20/85 The Experience by The Love Fellowship Choir.

Jon Schmidt Christmas Music

Posted by John

Jon Schmidt has a some free Christmas tracks in 192 kbits/sec MP3 format for free download. There’s also a few of his more popular tracks too.

To help you get into the Holiday Spirit and to assist me in climbing the charts at music.download.com, I need your help. Please download (for keeps) the following MP3 tracks, which have a bit rate of 192 kbs (aka, pretty much CD quality), and most have never been previously released as free MP3 downloads. Once again, please download these songs and pass along this email to your friends to do the same.

Pretty cool, thanks Jon.
