Bewitched

Posted by John

Shelly and I saw Bewitched last night. I’m not a big Will Ferrell fan so I wasn’t sure how well I would like the movie. I was pleasantly surprised. It got a few laughs from me. Shirley MacLaine was the perfect Endora and Nicole Kidman did a pretty good job, although I thought she was trying to be too much like Meg Ryan. In fact there were a few times where I thought Meg Ryan would of been perfect for this movie.

I don’t understand what happened to the ending? The movie ended without completing some of the story lines.

This weekend we want to see the Steven Spielberg movie War of the Worlds and I need to see Batman Begins again as there was way too much stuff going on to take it all in.

Batman Begins

Posted by John

Shelly and I saw Batman Begins today and we were both very pleased with the movie. As far as I’m concerned Christian Bale is the best Batman so far. This movie was packed with well known actors such as Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman.

A new restart of the “Batman” franchise under the helm of “Memento” Director Chris Nolan and more in tone with the early “Batman: Year One” style comics. As a boy a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of his eyes, a trauma which led him to become obsessed with revenge but his chance is cruelly taken away from him by fate. After disappearing to the East where he seeks counsel with the dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra’s Al-Ghul, he returns to his now decaying Gotham City overrun by organised crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system whilst the company he inherited is slowly being pulled out from under him.

The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armoured suit leads him to take on a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong – he becomes, Batman. In the new guise, and with the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various nefarious schemes in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan ‘The Scarecrow’ Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

The movie is dark and violent so it’s not for young kids.

Free Music Downloads

Amazon.com has free music downloads available for the taking. Here is the top 200 downloads. This page is updated every six hours.

There’s stuff from Moby, Beck, Alison Krauss, Bright Eyes, Bad Religion, Jimmy Eat World, Ella Fitzgerald, Offspring, and many more.

NPR has a good story on the current state of file sharing. The Supreme Court is deciding whether the online service Grokster bears responsibility when its users download copyrighted songs and films without permission. But even if the court rules against Grokster, no decision is likely to end the practice.

NPR’s All Things Considered is playing a selection of The Beatitudes, a Musical Tribute to John Paul II. A 1981 recording of Pope John Paul II reciting the Beatitudes set to music nearly 20 years later by an Italian composer, Leonardo de Amicis.

And the laughs continue at Dilbert Comic Strip Archive.

Looking For A Movie?

Posted by John

Go to Google and type movie: your city, state. So for example, for movies playing in St. George I would enter movie: St. George, UT and Google would return movie lists and showtimes for Saint George, UT. Very cool and quick!

You can also enter movie: name of movie for a list of movie reviews, or movie: actor name for a list of the movies that actor has been in with reviews.

Thanks Inside Google.

I love the Dilbert comics. Most of the time they are so funny and so true.

Check out the past two days and have yourself a chuckle.

Yesterday and today.

Kissing Is Best Valentine’s Gift

This Valentine’s Day, forget the flowers and chocolate. Cherie Byrd has a better idea: Learn to pucker up. Byrd, a psychotherapist who teaches kissing, thinks Americans should use their lips to speak to their sweethearts instead of their wallets.

Hey, I’m all for that!
