Echoing my thoughts and interests

Google released Personalized Search today.

Personalized Search is an improvement to Google search that orders your search results based on what you’ve searched for in the past. You may not notice much difference at first, but as you build up your search history, your personalized search results will continue to improve.

I wonder how this will change SEO tactics? The way I understand this is search results are going to be different for individual users. A particular search by one user may show different results than another user. If I’m ranked number one for a particular keyword for one user I may not be number one for another user, right?

  1. Kim Siever Said,

I tried your link and was redirected to google.com. How is this different from http://www.google.com/searchhistory/ released earlier this spring?

  2. John Said,

Personalized search uses your search history to provide results based on what you have searched for and selected in the past.

If you are already signed in to Google you will be taken to google.com to begin using personalized search. You can learn more at Google Labs.

The way I understand it is Search History provides a history of your search practices while Personalized Search uses the history to provide more relevant search results.

  3. Kim Siever Said,

    Good. :)

This really changes the dynamics of search engine placement.

  4. John Said,

That’s what I’m thinking. To what degree I’m not sure.
