No doubt you’ve heard about Google’s new toolbar that automatically links data on a web page for the user. For example, if I land on a page with an address on it, Google will hyperlink the address to Google Maps for me. If there’s an ISBN, Google will hyperlink it to the Amazon page that sells the book.
As a website owner you may not want Google creating links from information on your page. Microsoft tried doing this back in 2001 with Smart Tags which didn’t turn out to well.
Jeffrey Zeldman links to this script which can be placed in the Head section of your web page and prevents Google from creating links on your site. As Jeffrey said, it would be nice if Google would provide a meta tag that disables the hyperlinking.
