Echoing my thoughts and interests

Google has been indexing my site since 3:45 PM this afternoon. I activated johnhesch.com on December 16th so it took about three weeks for the Googlebot to get to me. I submitted the site to Google about a week ago so I'm not sure if that's what got them going or if it was the AdSense ads.

What's weird is the Googlebot is indexing pages that are not linked from anywhere. In WordPress there can be several different URL's that all go to the same page. For example this page was indexed

HTML:
  1. http://www.johnhesch.com/index.php?year=2005&
  2. monthnum=01&day=02&name=defining-google&page=

But the permalink URL for that post is

HTML:
  1. http://www.johnhesch.com/2005/01/02/defining-google/

I don't know how the first URL was found. The other thing that's interesting is the pages are indexed one at a time and sometimes three or four minutes apart and other times 30 or 40 minutes apart. I figured the bot would come in and index all the pages at once or at least one right after the other.

  1. Steve Evans Said,

John, how can you tell when you’ve been indexed?

  2. John Said,

I added some code to the header of my index page. I then receive an email every time the Google bot indexes a page with the date, time and page URL. The code won’t display correctly in the comments so I will create a new entry with the code.
